Shivi Development Society(SDS) is a civil society organization. It takes initiatives to positively impact the lives and quality of living of poor and marginalized sections of the society. SDS works on the issues of child development, human rights and good governance and promotion of people's participation with gender as a cross cutting theme. SDS generates awareness and capacity building through trainings and experience sharing workshops. In addition, SDS undertakes direct community outreach programs including participatory research, analysis and grass root action. Working at various levels, conducts research studies that enable it to undertake advocacy initiatives.
SDS was formed in 1995 to facilitate and strengthen community action in social development, dealing with livelihood and children's issues in particular. It has believed that while voluntary and independent social action is important for dealing with a large mass of problems, the very functioning of the democracy in a civil society is based on minimizing the gap between the aspirations of the people and public policies. Thus, SDS initiated research in policy work with the public sector. It strives to support policy frame work and capacity building through lobby and advocacy strategies.
