GTE is a provider of telecommunication products and services in the United States. It was formally known as General Telephone & Electronics Corporation. GTE operates in Canada via companies such as BC TEL and Quebec-Téléphone. Prior to GTE's merger with Bell Atlantic, GTE also maintained an interactive television service joint-venture called GTE mainStreet. GTE was established in 1918 and is based in Stamford, Connecticut.
