BIOMANITY is developing the first 100% biosourced and biodegradable Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP) for agricultural use. It allows water retention of up from 100 to 1200g of water per 1g of SAP. Other applications are numerous: diaper absorbent, humidifier, desiccant, packaging, encapsulation, delivery of active ingredients, cosmectics etc. Placed at the roots of plants, it acts as a reservoir of water and fertilizer, thanks to 2 unique functions which allow control of these two resources: - It absorbs water that is not captured by plants during watering (irrigation, rain) and increases the useful water reserve in the soil: crops are more resistant to water stress. - It encapsulates fertilizers and releases them in a controlled manner: it avoids overdoses and leaching and improves their effectiveness. - Its biodegradability in the soil has been successfully tested using the standardized OECD 301F test. SAP BIOMANTY has technical characteristics equivalent to SAPs on the market, non-biodegradable or compostable, prohibited for use in soils in Europe since 10/2023. It meets the Reach regulations on microplastics and EU 2019-009 on fertilizing materials.
