The Lutheran World Federation puts faith into action for a more just, peaceful and reconciled world.
As a global communion or family of 149 churches in the Lutheran tradition, it represents over 77 million Christians in 99 countries.
The LWF acts on behalf of member churches to provide humanitarian assistance, to advocate for the protection of human rights, and offers dialogue in theology, interfaith and inter-church and ecumenical relations.
LWF work is recognized for the quality of its humanitarian emergency response by its partners, including UNHCR and Islamic Relief Worldwide. It serves people in need irrespective of ethnicity, religion or gender. In developing countries, it works to improve livelihoods, education, gender relations and mitigation of climate change.
The LWF is supported financially by churches and other partners, including the United Nations and governments agencies.
Its headquarters, the LWF Communion Office, are located at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva, Switzerland. In all, 80 staff members of 25 different nationalities work in this office. In its country programs, the LWF has a workforce of 59 international staff members, 2600 national staff and 5400 refugee staff and volunteers.
