Established in 1872, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA is the founding society of the SPCA movement in South Africa. We are the only animal welfare organisation in the Western Cape that offers a 24 hour Inspectorate service to the public.
In our proactive fight to prevent animal cruelty, we provide veterinary care services to impoverished communities, educate children on responsible pet care and teach husbandry skills to small-scale farmers. We rescue and rehabilitate all types of animals, including wildlife in distress, and instigate legal action against perpetrators of animal cruelty. Our Adoption Centre, Horse Care Unit and Farmyard provide a safe refuge for thousands of animals until we find them loving and caring homes.
Knowing that we make a difference by righting some of the wrongs inflicted on defenceless animals is what inspires us and drives us to action. Last year alone, we sterilised over 6,500 animals, reducing the region’s animal over-population problem, provided primary veterinary care to 35,000 animals, rescued and cared for 1,400 wild animals and responded to 39,000 reports of animal cruelty.
