Addis Powerhouse is a Feminist Media committed to amplifying women’s voices and creating participatory spaces for women in Ethiopia. The Media provides Ethiopian women’s rights movements, youth-led organizations, and individual human rights advocates, the digital platform to write new feminist realities in the country. Since its inception two years ago, the Powerhouse has published monthly newsletters that spoke on several gender related topics that are considered to be taboo in the community, e.g., sex-work, abortion, etc. It has also produced interviews with feminists from different professions and engaged the youth in conversations that break the patriarchal norm in the country.
In addition to its social media presence, Addis Powerhouse conducts physical projects to advocate for gender equality within communities that do not have access to internet or telecommunication infrastructures. Some of the projects led by the Powerhouse have worked to create awareness in the community about gender-based violence, to capacitate grassroots women’s rights organizations, to include women living with disabilities in the socio-economic development of the country, and equip human rights defenders on knowledge about using a feminist-lens. You can learn more about our physical activities from our YouTube page.
