The Institute of Sustainability in Civil Engineering (INaB) at RWTH Aachen University is an interdisciplinary and international team addressing a wide range of topics in the field of sustainability:
- Main focus on life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology
- Life cycle sustainability assessment (LCSA), including LCA, life cycle costing (LCC) and social life cycle assessment (S-LCA)
- Sustainable finance
- Sustainable construction, building sustainability, green building rating systems
- Carbon concrete, green steel
- Criticality of raw materials, waste management, recycling
- Circular economy (indicators) in LCSA
- Bioeconomy and bioproducts
- Sustainable mobility
- Renewable energy sources
On June 1, 2017, the institute commenced its work under the Faculty of Civil Engineering with Prof. Dr. Marzia Traverso as head of the Institute. While the protection of our planet and its sustainable development are on the political agenda, implementation remains a major challenge in daily practice. Our mission is the research towards the implementation of methods that enable assessment and improvement of the sustainability performance of buildings, the automotive industry, the food or textile sector, etc. Each of our employees is involved in advancing sustainable approaches and research in life cycle sustainability assessment to help build a more sustainable society.
INaB is part of the newly founded Center for Circular Economy (CCE) at RWTH Aachen.
