Hispanic Unity of Florida (HUF) was founded in 1982 by community leaders as a haven for immigrants and refugees to guide them to the U.S. on their journey to their American dream and to ease the acculturation process. Often arriving with little more than the clothes on their backs, a few dollars in pocket change, with no job, language, or understanding of the life that awaits them on America’s shores – they still endure the unknown to achieve their hopes and dreams. Today, HUF is South Florida’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to the immigrant population. With 12 programs and more than 30 services offered in 4 languages, the organization serves South Florida’s diverse community. Since its inception, HUF has served over 553,500 individuals.
For the past several years, HUF has been at the forefront of a comprehensive service delivery strategy dedicated to advancing social and economic stability through a family-centered two-generation (2Gen) approach. This process intentionally engages with children and their parents simultaneously, with a primary focus on enhancing family well-being. At the heart of our mission lies an unwavering commitment to nurturing self-sufficiency, guiding our communities towards prosperity and fulfillment. For immigrant families navigating the complexities of a new culture and society, self-sufficiency is not merely a goal; it is a vital pathway to stability, dignity, and belonging. Through our programs we empower immigrant families to achieve self-reliance, equipping them with the necessary tools and knowledge to thrive independently.
HUF's mission is "Empowering immigrants and others to become self-sufficient, productive and civically engaged."
