The Institute of Research on Combustion (IRC) is part of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR). The IRC mission is framed in the concept of “sustainable energy development” carrying out research in the crucial sectors of smart energy, environment protection and mitigation of climate effects, with the development of advanced processes for power/thermal energy production from fossil and renewable sources, valorization of wastes and alternative fuels, advanced techniques for pollutant monitoring/abatement, industrial risk assessment and production/characterization of materials relevant for energy. In this framework new and more promising activities in the area of advanced technologies are developed: energy production also integrating renewable sources (biomass and solar energy), innovative energy storage systems, pollutant monitoring and abatement, CO2 capture, biomass and wastes valorization, new materials for energy. IRC research, supported by public and private funding, is developed at national and international level in collaboration with private companies and other prestigious research institutions.
