First Story is working towards a society that encourages and supports young people from all backgrounds to write creatively, for pleasure and agency. We believe there is dignity and power in being able to tell your own story, and that writing can transform lives. Our flagship programme places professional writers into state schools, where they work intensively with students and teachers. Through First Story, young people discover what it means to have a voice, while developing the skills and confidence to thrive in education and in life. We're tackling educational inequality by bringing opportunities for extracurricular creative learning to young people who may not otherwise have the chance. Our regional hubs cover London, the East Midlands, Yorkshire and the North West. Through our core programme and extended activities, including competitions and events, we expand young people's horizons and raise aspirations. Participants gain vital skills that underpin academic attainment and support achieving potential.
