Shriners International is a fraternal organization with chapters around the world. Members are men of good character dedicated to fun, fellowship and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, truth and relief. Shriners are perhaps best known by their tasseled red fezzes , and the life-changing medical care provided through the organization’s signature philanthropy, Shriners Hospitals for Children®.
The Shriners organization was founded in 1870 by Masons seeking a way bring more fun to their fraternity life. Membership still requires that a man first be a Master Mason. Today, Shriners International boasts more than 200,000 members who attend meetings and events at nearly 200 temples (chapters) as well as thousands of local clubs and units. Shriners enjoy a wide variety of activities and family-friendly events, and they participate in sports and recreation, motor corps patrols, homebrew clubs … among many other groups.
Though the majority of Shriners are in North America, Shriners can be found on six continents, and international development is on the rise, with Bolivia, Brazil, Germany, Panama, the Philippines all having established vibrant temples.
