Taking its name from the Corio Bay in the southwest corner of Port Phillip close to where the company was established in Geelong in 1996, Corio Waste Management Pty Ltd (CWM) is owned by the Geelong-based Dickens family. Ken Dickens and his children Mathew, Nathan and Anthea are directors of the company. CWM specialises in the collection, treatment and disposal of solid, liquid and other waste types, including hazardous materials and the operation of landfills, compost facilities and waste transfer stations. The company employs more than 60 people, has a fleet of 50 vehicles and performs 10,000 waste and recycling collections each week. It serves around 1,500 commercial and industrial and local government customers across the Surf Coast, Corio Bay area, and Melbourne’s west and south-eastern suburbs from depots in Geelong, Altona North and Dandenong South. While the waste management industry has changed over the past few years with an emphasis on environmental responsibility and recycling, CWM has been at the forefront in improving operational efficiencies. Looking ahead, CWM is planning to expand into new geographic regions and its capabilities as a diversified waste services business through acquisitions and contracts wins.
