UMS (University Musical Society) is a nonprofit performing arts presenter housed on the campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Its mission is to inspire individuals and enrich communities by connecting audiences and artists in uncommon and engaging experiences.
Now in its 145th season, UMS contributes to the vibrant cultural community in Southeast Michigan by presenting a wide spectrum of the performing arts: internationally renowned recitalists and orchestras, dance and chamber ensembles, jazz and international traditional music artists, contemporary stagework, and classical theater. Through educational programming, commissioning new works, youth programs, artists residencies, and collaborative projects, UMS provides creative learning experiences for our entire community, sparking and growing a lifelong passion for creativity and the performing arts.
UMS is a recipient of the National Medal of Arts, the nation’s highest public artistic honor. Awarded by President Obama at the White House, the honor recognizes those who have “demonstrated a lifetime of creative excellence.”
