Lviv Polytechnic National University is the oldest technical educational institution in Ukraine and Eastern Europe. The history of Lviv Polytechnic University dates back to the foundation of the Tsisar-Royal Real School in Lviv in 1816. It has been training highly qualified specialists for over 200 years now, it has been a generator of technical ideas and inventions, the leading educational and scientific centre.
Today Lviv Polytechnic National University is a higher educational institution of the 4th level of accreditation, whose graduates work in all spheres of economy of our country and in many countries of the world.
Lviv Polytechnic University consists of 12 educational and scientific institutes, as well as Institute of Distance Education, Institute of Postgraduate Education, Institute of Land Forces and Institute of Education, Culture and Collaboration with Diaspora, technical and techno-economic colleges, two high schools, 32 academic and laboratory buildings, 14 halls of residence, 3 recreational camps for students and teachers, Prosvita Cultural Association.
Over 31 000 students, cadets and external students study at the University. Specialists are trained in 56 directions and 106 specialities.
The education process is ensured by the professorial and teaching staff amounting to over 2000 people, out of whom over 200 are doctors of science and over 1000 are associate professors, candidates of science. About 300 scientists from the scientific institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, manufacturing firms and designer institutes are involved in the education process. University’s modern development is based on the principles of inheritance and preservation of educational, scientific and cultural traditions. At the same time we face the tasks of the realization of new prospects.
