Advanced Polymer Coatings, formerly Advanced Polymer Sciences, was incorporated in 1989 with headquarters in Avon, OH, to produce high-temperature polymers to meet the extremely demanding anticorrosion and surface protection requirements of the military and aerospace industries. APC developed a way of cross-linking an organic polymer with an inorganic polymer possessing high multi-functional capability. The end result was a three-dimensional, ladder-like structure where high cross-linking was achieved by the formulation of Ether groups, C-O-C (carbon-oxygen-carbon), one of the strongest bonds in chemistry.
