The Scottish Training Federation was originally formed in 1990 to represent providers of ‘National Training Programmes’throughout Scotland. In 2004 the association re-established itself as a company limited by guarantee – STF Limited.
Acting as the collective voice of its members, STF has become recognised by the Scottish Government, and other key stakeholders in the work based learning industry, as the ‘voice of training providers’ and the main representative body of learning providers operating in the work based training industry in Scotland.
STF has been able to strengthen and professionalise the organisation, and now represents learning providers in Scotland involved in the delivery of a wide range of vocational programmes. Membership comprises colleges, local authorities, private and not-for-profit learning providers and accounts for the majority of Modern Apprentices in training in Scotland.
The strength of STF lies in the diverse network of learning providers which it represents, and the level of communication and participation which exists within its membership. STF members comprise a broad mix of private training providers, group training associations, colleges, universities and local authority training departments, and cover a wide range of occupational areas, from traditional craft apprenticeships through to service sector occupations. Most of STF members are involved in the delivery of government funded training including Modern Apprenticeship.
