Laboratorios Bagó, the leading company of the Bagó Group, was founded in 1934 by Don Sebastian Bagó. This company was the first Argentine laboratory to import penicillin to the country, and some years later, it started to export its medical products to other countries in America and Europe. As from 1960, Laboratorios Bagó has been strengthening its position as one of the leading Argentine organizations, with a strong presence in Latin America. This has enabled the company to expand its successful businesses through 18 subsidiaries in different countries of the area.
As a first step to consolidate its leadership, Bagó acquired Química Montpellier. Then, in 1977, Disprofarma - the major country wide distributor of pharmaceutical products - was founded. Later, two new companies joined the Group: Compañía de Seguros Victoria, and the Instituto Biológico San Jorge - at present Instituto San Jorge Bagó, a veterinary products company. Finally, Nutricia-Bagó was created, exclusively focused to specialized nutrition.
By the mid 80s, the Bagó Group strongly consolidated its position, conforming a holding of companies which enabled the Group to convey the benefits of its products to other nations, and to favor the scientific development of the area, encouraging professional exchange and strong bonds of communication, and scientific and technological cooperation.
