LUMS Photographic Society is the largest student run photographic society in Pakistan. Succinctly, this is a society by the people and for the people, and runs much like a democratic institution, with a well-laid out selection criteria including interviews and a thorough screening process.
From the subtle art of photography to the use of this very art to change lives, LUMS Photographic Society has unequivocally come a long way. Besides hosting innumerable events including the annual Mehfil-e-Tasaweer and the LUMS Annual Photography Summit (LAPS), the society has made efforts to make incoming batches feel welcomed during O’week, and has bid farewell to the graduating batches with videos that encapsulated their memories.
From capturing glimpses of happiness and deliriousness at various events held at LUMS, external or internal, to preserving contemporary works of art put forth by LUMinites in all fields of life, LUMS Photographic Society has aimed at connecting people for over two decades. Aimed at preserving every memory made at LUMS, for the sake of promoting the art of photography and reaching unreachable limits, LUMS Photographic Society has been a core society at LUMS for a long while. Its Social Responsibility Program successfully collaborated with a local NGO: Rizq, for projects such as the Ramadan drive and free wedding shoots for the underprivileged. Moreover, initiatives such as Awaz; a series to voice the indigent in our community through our social media platform, Chiragh-e-Umeed; an initiative to spread awareness through photography amongst students from underprivileged schools and Libaas-e-Khuloos; a project to provide food and clothing to needy communities, are carried out throughout the year to contribute towards the betterment of our society. LUMS Photographic Society has spread its roots beyond the gates of LUMS, to let the art of photography flourish and preserve. All this has been possible due to the support of successful brands such as Nikon.
