The Conselho das Finanças Públicas | Portuguese Public Finance Council (CFP) is an independent body created by the Budget Framework Law in 2011.
The Council’s mission is to conduct an independent assessment of the consistency, compliance with the defined objectives and sustainability of public finances, while fostering its transparency. Accordingly, CFP’s mission should contribute towards the quality of democracy and economic policy decision-making, as well as to reinforcing the Republic’s financial credibility.
CFP will support the operation of decision-making and monitoring mechanisms in order to ensure the consistency of public finances with a medium-term, transparent and comprehensive framework compatible with a sustainable path. This will build one of the essential pillars of a stable macroeconomic environment, strengthening the foundations for the development of the Portuguese economy.
