WordSmooth helps organizations communicate effectively across differences to advance equity and inclusion. We work with school districts, corporations, governmental agencies, and nonprofit organizations to support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives that actually are inclusive and avoid shame and blame. We also work with nonprofits to develop programs and grant proposals with an equity lens.
CEO Patty Bates-Ballard is author of the books ACE-ing Conflict and Navigating Diversity, and developer of the Harvest Respect learning program. Her experience as a conflict resolution specialist, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion educator, mediator, racial equity advocate, and mother of two sons all contribute to her to focus on effective communication across differences.
Harvesting Respect learning program clients include Highland Park, Garland, Irving, Frisco, Mesquite, and Birdville ISDs; Jesuit College Prep School; Dallas Academy; Head Start of Greater Dallas; American Camp Association; and Dallas County Juvenile Department. She coordinates the Culture Club at Dallas Academy, working with students to create monthly bulletin boards that highlight the contributions of marginalized groups.
WordSmooth also offers culturally competent writing and editing, specializing in grant proposals and reports for nonprofit organizations. We also develop web content, press releases, and review PR campaigns for cultural competence. Writing clients include Dallas Children's Theater, Dallas Academy, Foundation for Laughter, North Texas Alliance to Reduce Unintended Pregnancy in Teens, City House, Teatro Dallas, Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas, The Innovation Institute, and Lone Star Circus.
