A carer is someone who provides unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who has a disability, mental or physical illness, substance misuse issue, or who needs extra help as they grow older.
Carers First works directly with and for, unpaid carers to provide personalised information and advice. Registration is free and whatever their circumstance, Carers First offers services to support carers at every stage of their caring journey.
The charity is commissioned to deliver Carer Support services for Lincolnshire, Essex, Medway and London Boroughs Newham, Hackney, Waltham Forest and Haringey.
In order to ensure carers have everything they need to fulfil their caring role, our team provides advice on potential support available such as carers allowance and carers assessment. We work with carers to identify the best way forward for them as individuals, and support them with practical and helpful information on employment issues, how to access respite, as well as helping to navigate sensitive conversations with GP’s, hospitals and social care professionals. In Lincolnshire, we are also commissioned to carry out carers assessments directly on behalf of the local authority.
