Farmshare Austin is a 501c3 with a mission to grow a healthy, just and equitable local food system by increasing community food access and cultivating new farmers. We envision a future of resilient local food economies that ensures equitable access to food and to the resources needed to farm.
Farmshare Austin builds bridges between the produce grown on our 10-acre certified organic farm in Eastern Travis County and food access programs reaching food insecure communities in Central Texas.
Our work is guided by four key areas of focus:
EDUCATION
Our pilot educational program, Farmer Starter, focuses on giving aspiring farmers the knowledge they need to run a sustainable farming business. The program emphasizes sustainable and organic growing methods as well as practical business and financial skills to establish a successful market farm. Yields from our Farmer Starter classes are sold directly to our food access program and sold wholesale to local vendors.
FOOD ACCESS
Fresh For Less (FFL) is a program in partnership with the City of Austin and Sustainable Food Center. The goal of FFL is to reduce geographic and economic barriers to accessing healthy fresh food for people living in Austin's areas of food apartheid. Through the FFL Mobile Markets & Curbside Delivery programs, residents living in the eastern crescent of Austin and Travis County will have access to affordable, healthy and fresh food.
