DU Beat is India’s largest independent student newspaper, run entirely by the students of the University of Delhi. It was founded in the year 2006 and has served the students and faculty of Delhi University by addressing students’ issues, reporting news, and publishing opinions. It is distributed to students weekly, across 20 colleges in the University, including both North and South campus, as well as a few off-campus colleges. We reach them via our online and offline platforms spread across our print edition, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Snapchat.
Over the last 13 years, DU Beat has increased its online and offline audience engagement and has proved to be the leading voice of the university students. On Instagram, the organisation has around 8 million monthly impressions and an estimate of 48,000 followers. With a reach of 252,000 people on Facebook, DU Beat has been instrumental in bringing about a change in the lives of the students. On the offline platform, 3000 print copies are distributed every week to the students of the University.
From ideating stories, investigating, writing, raising funds for our print edition, to regular managerial work - every little thing in our organisation is handled solely by undergraduate students. We recruit students, train them to excel in their various fields, and prepare them to work in professional settings. In the last decade, students who have worked at DU Beat in various capacities have gone ahead to lead major teams at Google, pursued journalism in globally influential outlets like The New York Times and Huffington Post, excelled in academics as Commonwealth Scholars, and begun their own media initiatives. The team has eventually come to consist of the University’s best talents as correspondents, graphic designers, photographers, and videographers, aided with a full functioning team of human resources and marketing from the various colleges of the varsity.
