Our entrepreneurial journey goes back to 2006-2007, when global view was: No one can build another eBay (critical mass and network effects). The buyers will only go where the sellers are and vice versa.
It was nonsense of course, consumers change products for many reasons and monopolies never last. Today there are hundreds of successful marketplaces and eBay is just a marginal player. Good news: our first venture challenging eBay’s domination was acquired for a good 9 digit value
Our new venture - VOLE - is questioning the same logic in social media. There will never be another Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or YouTube right? Nonsense again. Just like the marketplace business, social media will be fragmented. There will be multiple alternatives or complementary products. We are successfully scaling one already.
VOLE is world’s first dedicated social network for sports/football. The product started on March 17th, 2017 and fans loved it from day one. If you are a fan, you get the best experience in a stadium and that is what makes VOLE different, custom designed experience. VOLE feels like a 24/7 stadium.
Today VOLE delivers the same level of engagement as Twitter (in Turkey) during key sports events. Such adoption only happens when there is a clear need for the product. It is fascinating to see people get hooked to an alternative simply because it has a different experience.
