Headwaters Foundation for Justice is a catalyst for social, racial, economic and environmental justice. We do this through grantmaking and organizational assistance, which supports grassroots groups addressing the root causes of injustice.
Headwaters Foundation for Justice is a public foundation created in 1983 by activist leaders and thoughtful donors who wanted to direct their philanthropy to innovative, community based efforts driven by constituent-led organizations that had limited access to funding from larger foundations. In its 28-year history, Headwaters has directed close to $9 million in grants to Minnesota organizations serving low-income communities, communities of color, GLBTQ people, people with disabilities, immigrants and other historically excluded constituencies.
Our mission is to be a catalyst for social, racial, economic and environmental justice. Through grantmaking and capacity building support to grassroots organizations, our goal is to foster just and sustainable communities that embrace social racial, economic and environmental equity. We do this in partnership with a committed community of nonprofit leaders and donors, working together as allies.
