Swarthmore seeks to inspire lives through friendly learning with a commitment to equality of opportunity. The Centre was founded in 1909 with the aim of including and involving people in learning activities and making sure that everyone was treated with equality and respect. Swarthmore is a centre for lifelong learning. Our main aim is to encourage people who want to learn but might not feel comfortable in more formal educational institutions.
Swarthmore can offer bespoke training for staff including fully accredited courses in Maths English and IT. We can also offer leisure activities for staff "away days" ranging from Pottery and the arts to health and well-being sessions.
We can provide meeting rooms and office space for community and commercial organisations. Ranging from small meeting rooms for 6 people, up to our large hall which accommodates 150 people - there is something for everyone.
Swarthmore's cafe is open to visitors and members of the public.
