The Government Operational Research Service (GORS) is a specialised analytical profession within Her Majesty’s Civil Service, spearheading the use of evidence within government. We tackle high profile, high impact problems in the real world to inform decisions made by ministers and other government officials that affect ordinary members of the public. Drawing from mathematics, statistics, computer science and physics, our analytical techniques are as diverse as the problem demands, ranging from simulation and mathematical modelling to neural networks and social network analysis.
We are involved in all aspects of government, with our 600 data analysts working within more than 25 government departments, in 15 locations around the country.
