Turning Pages is a social enterprise with the vision of bringing the benefits of strong and joyful reading habits to under-served children. Over 50% of children in India leave primary school not being able to read at Grade 2 levels. This means they enter secondary school with a distinct disadvantage, even as the content they are expected to study gets more and more difficult. High drop out rates and poor educational outcomes follow. The effect on employability and overall life outcomes is direct and negative.
There is an elegantly simple way to empower a child. Help them become strong and independent readers, fall in love with books and jump over some of the hurdles that poor schooling puts in their way.
Turning Pages delivers systemic change by transforming the reading culture in schools. Every element of the school ecosystem must come together to produce lasting change. We offer a unique 5 -pronged approach, working with children, teachers and parents, to bring about this transformation over a 3 year period. Founded by 3 impatient women, with a desire to reach as many children as possible, as quickly as possible, with the magic of joyful reading, Turning Pages currently works with 5 schools and has impacted over 1450 children. Our mission is to empower 100,000 children with strong and joyful reading habits, by 2030.
