History:
SABALA, the mother organisation, is a voluntary organisation dedicated to the empowerment of women and children, based in the arid district of Bijapur of North Karnataka in South India. Set up in 1986, SABALA is working with widows, destitutes, tribals, physically challenged girls and women, and economically backward women.
SABALA established Craft Development Centre in 1998 to:
Revive the Traditional Craft
Promote self employment in order to Check the migration
Provide Marketing Facilities to ensure regular income and sustainability
Develop entrepreneurship quality among artisans
Protection of Child Rights
Capacity Building and Networking of Artisan
SABALA has been recognized for its fair trade standards and is a member of Fair Trade India and World Fair Trade Organisation - Asia.
