The IPC works together with the greater NSW community to ensure a mutually beneficial future. We deliver a high level of independence, expertise and transparency across the assessment and determination of state significant development applications in NSW.
Our Commission operates independently to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment (DP&E). We play an important role in building community confidence in the decision-making processes for major development and land-use planning across NSW.
Our key functions are to determine state significant development applications where there is significant opposition from the community, conduct public hearings for development applications and other planning development matters, and provide independent advice on any planning or development matter, when requested by the Minister for Planning, or the Secretary of the DP&E.
