In 2017, we opened our comprehensive pattern library to create the most beautiful, sophisticated English garments for you. understated is not just a brand; it is the contemporary British tailoring brand. We don’t react to or get influenced by the taste of peacocks that determine current and transient fashion. We are defiant in our thoughts about timeless pieces that you will enjoy for years to come. Our garments will make you look refined, chic… understated. We are creating garments for the subtle, the discerning, the stalwarts, the bold but quiet luxurians, the revolutionists. We strongly believe that clothes should fit. Sounds easy and actually, it is. For every garment, we digitally create a spot-on pattern to ensure the perfect fit. Next to the perfect fit, there is another important reason for making unique garments: a limited eco footprint. We only produce and transport goods that have actually been ordered. Furthermore, garments that fit properly last longer and age better. For decades, we have been tailoring and crafting some of the most refined and elegant bespoke garments in Yorkshire (England) and India, one of the great powers of the British Commonwealth. The core of our tailoring is located in Bramley. It is here that the traditions of tailoring grew up, not far from the mills from where the world’s finest cloth originates. These tailoring skills, fine-tuned over the centuries, continue at understated in pattern drafting, cloth cutting, sewing and the tailoring of individually made, luxurious suits, jackets, coats, trousers and shirts. Our tailors come from a family containing generations of tailors and cutters that hold on to the artisanal skills and obsessive attention to detail needed to satisfy you and others of taste and discrimination.
