We are the iGEM Team 2018 from Vienna...
…, a team of 10 students with 6 supervising professors of the University of Natural Resources and applied Sciences
and the University of Vienna.
We represent Vienna 2018 at the "International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition" (iGEM) in Boston.
The iGEM Competition is an important event for the young emerging field of Synthetic Biology.
Over 300 teams worldwide register standardized genetic units (so-called biobricks) in the course of project developments, which are constantly advancing research in this field.
More information about the competition can be found on igem.org.
As part of our ROBOCROP project, we are developing a mechanism in plants that will make it possible,
to switch on and off any gene from outside controlled by an (agricultural) drone in an area of an agricultural area.
The agricultural applications for this are manifold.
The agricultural applications for this are manifold.
For example, serious frost damage could be prevented by delaying flower formation, the harvest could be chemically induced, or plants could be prepared for fertilization, etc...
The implementation of the project, as well as participation in the iGEM Big Jamboree is connected with quite intensive financial expenditure.
For this reason we are constantly looking for
financial support.
