The story of bObles began in 2006, when Bolette Blædel, architect by profession, went on maternity leave with her first-born child. To her disappointment she found that children’s furniture were inadequate and uninspiring for her son, as most were merely miniatures of adult furniture. Together with her sister, Louise, designer by profession, an idea began to flourish: What if Bolette and Louise could create children’s furniture that would indulge children’s imagination through playing and learning while developing children’s motor skills?
The idea of the tumbling furniture and bObles was born. The tumbling furniture is based on simple geometrically forms - cut in the shape of animals. The child is able to tumble, roll, balance, seesaw, rock, jump and gain bodily experience, which can serve as the foundation for further motor development while simultaneously functioning as furniture.
Today, the vision is the same as if was back in 2006; to build furniture at eye level with the children that encourage them to play, learn and develop, while at the same time designing furniture with such aesthetics and great design that allow the furniture to have a place in a modern day family home.
