Mission: We engage youth in team-based service experiences that build
life and work skills while inspiring a lifetime ethic of service.
Four Fundamental Goals:
1. Engage young people in service projects that are challenging, rewarding, and educational.
2. Serve the unmet needs of communities and their residents.
3. Promote among young people a greater understanding and appreciation for the diversity of their community.
4. Promote a lifetime ethic of service among young people.
First launched in 1987 in Kansas City, MO, YVC programming has grown to include dozens of communities throughout the U.S. and Canada. Programs are hosted locally by diverse community-based organizations such as volunteer centers, Hands-On, YMCA, Boys and Girls Clubs, United Way, City Parks & Recreation departments, and school districts. Funding is provided by foundations, corporations, individuals, United Ways, and local and federal governments. To date, we have supported and inspired over 300,000 youth, who have completed over 4.5 million hours of service.
