The idea of the Desa Akar Karsa Foundation stems from the various activities organized by Tani Jiwo, such as the Kelas Srawung (2019), Aksi Dieng Bersih (2018–2019), Kelas Menulis Dieng (2021), and Residensi Kecil (2021–2022). At that time, Tani Jiwo was not only a place to stay for tourists who visit Dieng, but also a space that could connect the people. Driven by the many guests of Tani Jiwo with various backgrounds who are interested in stories about Dieng and voluntarily share what they have through the Kelas Srawung. Through the activity, Tani Jiwo then held various classes that were both useful for and suited to the potentials of Dieng, such as guiding classes, social media classes for business, spices classes, and food photography classes.
Tani Jiwo also initiated the Aksi Dieng Bersih, which is a campaign for hygiene at the annual Dieng Culture Festival (DCF). The activity was based on the poor waste management during DCF 2018. Through the Kelas Menulis Dieng, Tani Jiwo attempts to archive local knowledge written by the Dieng residents. Lastly, through the Residensi Kecil program, Tani Jiwo provides opportunities for people from various disciplines to get to know, exchange knowledge, access, and archive knowledge from Dieng.
The idea to take shelter as a legal institution of the Desa Akar Karsa Foundation was then initiated in order to ensure the activities that were already running could be strengthened. Simultaneously, the Desa Akar Karsa Foundation was formed to open up the possibility of accessing public funds. Afterward, the Desa Akar Karsa Foundation would also address the social, environmental and humanitarian issues in Dieng.
