Xiamen University (XMU), founded in 1921 by Mr. Tan Kah Kee, a renowned Malayan overseas Chinese entrepreneur and philanthropist in Southeast Asia, was the first Chinese higher educational institution established by an overseas Chinese. It is the only university in China’s five Special Economic Zones that enjoys privileged support from China’s Ministry of Education for participation in “Project 211” and “Project 985”. XMU had been recognized internationally. It ranks 9th in China , 37th in Asia and 275th globally. Also 9 of XMU disciplines have been recognized as TOP 1% globally in ESI. It has been selected as 1 of the 14 Most Beautiful Campuses in the World by The Daily Telegraph, UK. Upon the invitation of Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education to set up a branch campus in Malaysia and in keeping with the vision of our founder Mr. Tan Kah Kee, we began in earnest to build our first offshore campus in Malaysia and became the pioneer university from China to establish an overseas campus in Malaysia. On 22nd Feb 2016, Xiamen University Malaysia Campus (XMUM) officially operated and having its first intake in Malaysia. Currently we houses more than 4000 students, and by the year 2020 the population will reach 5000. The total capacity is 10,000 students with a 150 acre site and total investment of RM 1.3 billion. XMUM provides a wide range of general electives to nurture interdisciplinary talents capable of meeting new challenges in a changing world. All courses are conducted in English (except Chinese Studies and Traditional Chinese Medicine), thus creating a perfect integration of China’s elements with international education, and student will get a certificate accredited by 2 giant governments: China & Malaysia Government. 80% of XMUM academic staff are PhD holders.
