Woodspin is a joint venture between Finnish fibre technology start-up Spinnova and Suzano, the world’s largest producer of sustainable eucalyptus pulp. The company’s mission is to be the most sustainable textile fibre source in the world with its fully biodegradable, zero waste, circular, wood-based fibre, SPINNOVA®.
Woodspin is the exclusive producer and distributor of wood-based SPINNOVA® fibre to fashion houses, brand holders, and their supply chain partners. The fibre can be spun into clothing, home textiles, non-woven materials, composites, and car parts, amongst other uses. SPINNOVA® fibre has already been used in clothing collections by fashion brands, including Adidas, H&M Group, Marimekko, and Bergans, amongst others.
Woodspin’s unique product and process fuse the responsibly grown eucalyptus hardwood of Suzano with the pioneering technology of Spinnova. This process requires no harmful chemicals or leaves behind materials releasing microplastics. It also uses 99.5% less water than cotton over its production cycle, with a carbon footprint that is 72% smaller. By sourcing all materials from Suzano’s sustainable eucalyptus farms, the company can verify its supply chain from field to factory to fibre.
Woodspin is based in Jyväskylä, Finland, where the first SPINNOVA® fibre factory is being built. The company aims to scale its annual wood-based SPINNOVA® production capacity to 1m tons by 2033.
