Hussain made the ultimate sacrifice. His epic legacy inspires millions today. Hussain, grandson of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad, is a 7th century revolutionary figure whose legendary martyrdom at the Battle of Karbala epitomised freedom, honour and the greatest of divine values in the face of unholy oppression. Since our small beginnings in 2012, Who Is Hussain has rapidly grown into a global movement with representatives in over 60 cities worldwide. We empower communities around the world to organise charitable events for the common good, ranging from blood donation campaigns, feeding the homeless, providing hands-on disaster relief and much more. We aim to inspire such social action through the timeless example of Hussain, and the values he stood for; those of justice and dignity. Did you know...? • The poignant anniversary of the Battle of Karbala is annually mourned by millions worldwide on 10th Muharram in the Islamic calendar, which is known as the Day of Ashura. The day marks a truly legendary saga like none other. • On the Day of Arbaeen – which is 40 days after the Day of Ashura – the city of Karbala, Iraq, spectacularly witnesses the largest annual gathering of human beings on the planet, with over 25 million pilgrims from all walks of life and every corner of the globe flocking to pay tribute. • Both the Day of Ashura and the Day of Arbaeen sees thousands annually take to the streets in the heart of the British capital, London, peacefully marching from Marble Arch to Downing Street – highlighting the revolutionary spirit of Ashura commemorations and reasserting British Muslims’ unequivocal stand against extremism, terrorism and the hijacking of Islam, in a powerful display of interfaith solidarity.
