White Crane Wellness Center is an independent and innovative non-profit organization whose objectives are to offer health and wellness services to older adults seeking ways to improve their health, and to serve as a model for a new approach to health and aging. For more than twenty years, we have been dedicated to serving the needs of older adults.
Our Wellness Center provides exercise classes for older adults (50+), enabling them to be healthy and to stay active in the community. We currently offer classes in Tai Chi, Yoga, Zumba Gold, Weights, Aerobics, and Massage Therapy.
Our Health Outreach Initiative provides health promotion and disease prevention programming for at-risk, low-income, minority, and/or refugee/immigrant older adults at community-based sites throughout Chicago and Suburban Cook County. Services provided include health screenings, evidence-based programs, health lectures, workshops, and more.
Our Adult Day Wellness Program (ADS) enables older adults who need extra help during the day to get the care they need while continuing to live in their own homes for as long as possible. Our community-based adult day service supports a frail older adult's ability to be healthy, active, and social by providing engaging activities (including "chair exercise", music, crafts, and much more). The program runs Monday through Friday and transportation is available within boundary areas. Adult day programming not only preserves a frail older adult's independence and dignity, but also avoids premature or unnecessary institutionalization.
White Crane is also currently coordinating the SMP (Senior Medicare Patrol) program in Chicago. Highly trained SMP volunteers provide presentations in the community about how to protect against, detect, and report Medicare fraud.
