In 1974 Mario Peca (the founder and Managing Director) started a fabrication company in O’Connor Western Australia, and has developed it into one of Australia’s pre-eminent heavy engineering facilities with an eye for uniqueness. Mario incorporated Wenco Pty Ltd in 1980 and thus established a business to meet the special needs of a state, rapidly developing its natural resources and associated industries that required our dynamic capabilities to form steelwork.
In 1985 Wenco embarked on a business plan to expand the company’s facilities, equipment, and services to directly satisfy the ever-growing needs of the oil, gas and mining sectors. Encouraged in collaboration with some of WA Industry heavyweights Alcoa, Woodside, Harnischfeger (earthmoving equipment), Wenco commissioned some of the largest rolling and pressing equipment in Australia, which was ahead of its time.
In 1994 Wenco gained international recognition by being awarded the distributorship rights to fiberglass pipe supplier Ameron (now known as NOV FGS Ltd, US), thus becoming the first company in Australia to bring the innovation of corrosion-resistant products into our country. As well as achieving Third-Party Certification from DNV to ISO 9001, Wenco has AS14001 certification for OH&S, Environmental accreditation and are well on the way to implementing NATA Accreditation for Hydrostatic Testing.
As of today (and approaching its 40-year anniversary) Wenco is still a 100% Australian business, growing into a small scale EPCM company, with a diverse spread of interests. The size and strength of Wenco positions the company to compete efficiently on capital LSTK projects, while still servicing and offering maintenance expertise to all major industries from oil & gas, industrial, mining, marine, defence and utilities sectors.
