Founded in 2010, Weather Telematics is a data and analytics company that operates a proprietary sensor network collecting high-resolution weather and climate data.
The Gen 1 Weather Telematics sensor was deployed successfully on 1500 vehicles in a multi-year National Mesonet pilot program funded by the US government, operating from 2011 through 2015. The pilot program proved the technical and operational viability of the sensor technology and demonstrated the potential for development of high-value applications for transportation logistics, risk/insurance, government services, planning, and numerous other sectors.
Now that the pilot program is complete, the next stage is to improve and commercialize the sensor technology and associated data applications.
While the sensor is a unique differentiator and the core patent, it serves primarily as an enabler for differentiated data analytics products. Weather Telematics is planning to develop a suite of data applications derived from the data generated by a new generation of proprietary WTX sensors, and data feeds from 3rd party weather, traffic, and air quality data sources.
By modeling and analyzing weather, air quality and traffic together, WTX will develop a unique set of API’s and analytics products designed to mitigate weather risk, reduce traffic congestion, and improve air quality.
The resulting analytics-based data products and map-based data visualization tools will enable Weather Telematics to assume an industry-leading position in weather, transportation, and air-quality data analytics.
