Wapos Bay Productions is a full service stop frame animation company developed for the production of Wapos Bay - The Series. Independent filmmakers, Dennis and Melanie Jackson, established Dark Thunder Productions in 1998 to create a new brand of entertainment with universal themes that bring Aboriginal stories to international audiences. In 1999, Dennis and Melanie Jackson partnered with independent producer Anand Ramayya to produce, “Christmas at Wapos Bay”.
Following the international success of “Christmas at Wapos Bay” which won numerous awards and premiered at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival, they formed Wapos Bay Productions and developed the children’s clay-mation series, “Wapos Bay” through the Totally Television program at the National Screen Institute of Canada. The pilot episode was completed in 2005 and has since screened at international festivals, won numerous awards including Best Dramatic Script and Best of Saskatchewan at the 2005 Showcase awards and triggered financing for the 34 episodes of the series and a Movie. Wapos Bay has earned FOUR GEMINI AWARDS including Best Writing for a Childrens/ Youth program (2010), Best Individual or Ensemble Performance in an Animated Program or Series (2008), Best Children’s or Youth Fiction Series (2007), and the Canada Award (2006). The series has garnered twelve Gemini nominations to date.
