WMPA was established in Amman, Jordan in 2009. Design services include master planning, architectural, landscape and interior design in the Arab region. The firm focuses on developing contemporary Arab/Islamic architecture that draws from the roots of Arab culture and architectural heritage, as well as local environments. WMPA’s design team utilizes modern concepts and technologies aimed at achieving sustainable developments, environmentally, economically and culturally.
Recent projects include the Ahlibank Head Office, Muscat, Oman, won in an international competition (opened 2014), Master Plan for Darb Al-Masha’er mixed use development in Makkah (800,000m2 BUA), several private residential projects in Taif, Riyadh, Sharjah, Muscat, and Amman, and was short-listed in an architectural competition for a 50,000 m2, five star hotel in Al-Khobar, KSA.
WMPA has been working on projects in Sharjah, UAE, with Shurooq, including Al-Majaz Waterfront (opened in 2012), and is currently working on its Phase 2 restaurants, in addition to designing the Kalba Eco-Tourism Development, the Dibba Retail Development, and Al-Bedayer Desert Camp.
About Wael Al-Masri:
Wael Al-Masri, Chief Architect at WMPA who studied at the University of Manchester, UK (Bachelors), and MIT, Cambridge, Mass, USA (Masters), has been practicing in the Arab region for the past four decades, and has contributed to the development of architecture in the region through his designs, research and lectures. His work has won several local, regional and international awards including the prestigious “Arab Architect Award” for his lifetime achievements, from the Arab Towns Organization (2008), Best Designer of the Year Awards (2007 and 2008) from Retail City, Dubai, Islamic Architecture Award, Cityscape Dubai (2007), Design and Development Award 2007, from the International Council of Shopping Centers 2007 (ICSC), USA, and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Napper Urban Design Award (1984).
