Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association, WISTA Poland
WISTA Poland, part of the Women's International Shipping and Trading Association, was founded in 1974 in the United Kingdom. It currently brings together women from 45 countries worldwide. The aim of WISTA is to establish contacts, exchange experiences, understand global and regional maritime issues, and support each other in all joint projects related to the maritime economy, trade, and transport. WISTA International collaborates with the IMO and serves as its official advisory body.
WISTA Poland was established in 1993, marking Poland’s individual membership. In 1994, Poland was first represented at the international conference in Rapallo. In 2013, 15 founding women registered WISTA Poland in the National Court Register (KRS), making it an official and fully recognized women's maritime organization in Poland, and part of WISTA International.
Members of WISTA Poland actively work towards understanding the maritime environment, participating in national and international conferences, seminars, and meetings in selected companies and institutions to expand their professional knowledge. They engage in mentoring, supporting younger colleagues. They collaborate with many industry associations and other women’s organizations to exchange experiences.
Notably, WISTA Poland works for the benefit of school and university youth, motivating them to work in the maritime economy and related fields. They participate in social campaigns promoting the sea, such as "Adopt a Ship" and maritime work. They conduct literary competitions among school youth on maritime topics and support the Ocean of Dreams Foundation. WISTA Poland provides its members with a significant impulse for mutual support and promotion, ready to undertake initiatives and actions aimed at the development of maritime culture and the integration of the entire community.
