The Vow4Mal foundation is a field of interest fund at the Santa Barbra Foundation focusing on
drinking and driving education and prevention. The fund began in January of 2014, in memory
of Mallory Rae Dies, who was hit and killed by a drunk driver.
In the aftermath of Mallory’s death, community supporters, friends and family all rallied around
the issue of drinking and driving prevention and to “eliminate the excuses” of drinking and
driving. Within a short two months, with the generous funding of local citizens and business,
Vow4Mal raised over $50,000.00.
Today the fund is housed at the Santa Barbara Foundation where we work on a grassroots effort
to address community needs and creating the “show love, save lives” movement, which is
changing stero-types about both designated drivers and drinkers who drive.
Designated Hero Program:
Once a month, a downtown venue will host a Designated Hero night to promote and incentivize designated driving and responsible drinking. Every designated driver who attends a Designated Hero night will have the opportunity to win prizes, ranging from candy and parking passes to restaurant gift certificates and electronics. All Designated Hero participants must pass a breathalyzer test to be eligible for prizes.
