The University of Queensland Debating Society (UQDS) is one of the oldest and most active student societies of the University of Queensland and is one of the most successful debating societies in the world. The UQDS is consistently ranked in the top 20 debating societies in the world and in the top 5 debating societies in the Asia Pacific region and in Australia. Alumni of the UQDS includes numerous Rhodes Scholars, Jessup Champions, and leaders across politics, the public service, law, management consultancy, and commerce.
The UQDS organises a weekly debating tournament on campus, convenes intervarsity tournaments, and sends contingents to interstate, national, and international debating tournaments. Alongside the achievements and activities across competitive debating, the UQDS also coordinates high school debating development and hosts the UQ Public Debate Series featuring distinguished academics and public leaders. Students of all levels of debating experience and from all academic faculties are welcome and can access world-class training opportunities and a vibrant social community.
The University of Queensland Debating Society is affiliated with and registered under the University of Queensland Union. The UQDS is a constituent and voting member of the both Australasian Intervarsity Debating Association and the World Universities Debating Council.
