The Nazi Boni University (formerly the Polytechnic University of Bobo) comprises a school and four institutes each under the responsibility of a director assisted by a deputy director. The school and the institutes are teaching and research establishments with several departments opening on various specialities.
It is located in the western region of Burkina-Faso, more precisely in the village of Nasso, about fifteen kilometers from Bobo-Dioulasso, the country's second largest city. Bobo-Dioulasso, or city of Sya from the name of its founder, is a tourist region that welcomes many visitors who come to discover the hippopotamus pond of Bama classified as a world tourist heritage, the mosque of Dioulassoba, the village of Koro, and the Guinguette near the site of the UPB. The region is accessible by air, rail and land.
The Polytechnic University of Bobo-Dioulasso is a public establishment of the State with scientific, cultural and technical character (EPSCT), in charge of higher education and scientific research. This status gives it scientific, administrative and financial autonomy. It is a national university whose mission is the development and transmission of knowledge for the training of men and women to meet the needs of the nation. This mission is in line with the Burkinabe government's policy of decentralization of higher education and the conquest of the job market, the training of executives in professionalizing fields for more productivity in the socio-economic and cultural sectors.
