The United Nations Association of Bulgaria is an organization which has been working for many years in favour of the public benefit. Founded in 1948 with view of supporting the membership of Bulgaria in the United Nations, which occurred in 1955, the Association is a member of the World Federation of the United Nations Associations (WFUNA) together with more than 160 other national associations. The members of the Bulgarian association are predominantly diplomats, university lecturers and students. Its chairman is His Excellency Ambassador Ivan Garvalov.
The Mission of the Association is the incorporation of the Bulgarian society in favour of the Association’s tasks, strengthening of the international peace and security for development and dialogue between the nations and respect for the human rights and freedoms. The Association applies the ideas, principles and decisions of the United Nations through its activities and publications.
Since 2003 the Association is a national coordinator for the region of Eastern Europe within the framework of the world programme Global Partnership for Prevention of Armed Conflicts (GPAAC).
