We are a coalition of US and Afghan women formed after the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan to address the plight of the millions of Afghans who are facing extreme poverty and hunger in light of the country’s collapsing economy. We are a non-political group of regional experts, civil society activists, and Afghan American professionals, with decades of experience in Afghanistan and women's rights.
Originally formed in response to an urgent appeal from the 45,000-member Teachers Association of Afghanistan in October 2021, sounding the alarm that teachers had not received months of pay, we have been working since to advocate for Afghanistan's civilian population, especially its most vulnerable members, women and children. With the economy in collapse, restrictions from the new government, and an extreme humanitarian crisis ongoing, we are committed to advocating for the rights of these vulnerable populations.
With $7 billion in foreign reserve assets frozen by the US in response to the Taliban takeover, Afghanistan has the resources to stabilize its economy and mitigate the current humanitarian crisis - if only it had access to these funds.
