Uvic Applied Portfolio Management Program

The UVic Applied Investment Management Program is a student-run investment program, centered on education and responsible investing. The program provides student portfolio managers and analysts with hands-on experience managing a $1.2MM portfolio of stocks and bonds in the Canadian and US markets, in close coordination with industry and academic experts. APMP is UVic’s premiere experiential learning experience for students pursuing careers in financial services. The Applied Portfolio Management Program is a collaboration between CFA Society Victoria, CFA Institute, BCI, UVic Continuing Studies, UVic Economics, and the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business. This page serves to connect the Portfolio Managers and Analysts of UVIC’s APMP with members of the Investment Advisory Committee (IAC) and the UVic student/faculty/alumni community. Portfolio Managers are recruited in May, after they have completed the Applied Investment Management Course (AIMC) - which runs November through April (typically in a student’s 3rd-year of studies). Analysts are recruited in September, following the completion of pre-requisite courses in either Business (Com 371, Com 445) or Economics (Econ 305, Econ 435). The Applied Investment Management Course is taught by practicing industry professionals and focuses on the application of theoretical finance to real-life scenarios. Through the course, students develop the foundational skills necessary to manage investment assets. Upon completion of prerequisite coursework, students may be selected to apply for APMP. Once accepted, students enter into a directed studies course overseen by an Investment Advisory Committee comprised of industry professionals and UVic faculty.
